Kochi: In a bold step towards transforming Kerala into a globally recognised hub of education, innovation, and social development, Kochi JAIN University has officially launched the Future Kerala Mission. The initiative aims to establish world-class, industry-driven education, create employment opportunities, foster entrepreneurship, empower women, and build a socially responsible society.
The mission has been conceptualised drawing inspiration from the Summit of the Future 2025, held under the leadership of Jain University.
Former diplomat and Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Venu Rajamony, has taken charge as Chairman of the Future Kerala Mission. He will also serve as the Principal Advisor to Jain University.
Rajamony has held several prestigious positions, including Press Secretary to the President of India, Consul General in Dubai, and Officer on Special Duty to the Kerala Government in Delhi with a rank equivalent to Chief Secretary. He has also served as Professor of Diplomatic Practice at O.P. Jindal University, KPS Menon Chair for Diplomatic Studies at the School of International Relations and Politics, M.G. University, and Member of the IQAC Council at Christ Deemed to be University. He continues to advise several prominent educational institutions.
Mission set to benefit from Rajamony’s experience
Dr Tom Joseph, Director of New Initiatives at Jain University and Chief Facilitator of the Future Kerala Mission, said that Venu Rajamony’s national and international experience, commitment to Kerala’s development, and his strong relationships with leading educational institutions in India and abroad would be of immense value to the university’s academic efforts and the Future Kerala Mission.
He added that Rajamony’s diplomatic expertise, gained from his service in Hong Kong, Beijing, Geneva, Dubai, Washington D.C., and across Kerala and India, will significantly contribute to the mission’s success. Dr Joseph expressed his delight at Rajamony’s appointment as Chairman and highlighted that his contributions would be invaluable for Kerala’s sustainable development.
Vision for Kerala’s sustainable growth
Venu Rajamony stated that Jain University’s efforts for the sustainable growth of Kerala are commendable and that he is pleased to work with the university to realise the vision and goals of the thoughtfully designed mission. He emphasised that Kerala holds great potential and, with well-planned and effectively implemented initiatives focusing on the younger generation, the state can achieve global standards.
New University and anti-drug pledge among key initiatives
As part of the Future Kerala Mission, the Jain Group of Institutions had earlier announced the setting up of a new private university in Kozhikode under the name Jain Global University, with an initial investment of Rs 350 crore.
A key initiative under the mission also includes a mandatory pledge for all new students to abstain from drug use, aimed at freeing the next generation from substance abuse. Through such efforts, the university is implementing several projects designed to elevate Kerala to international standards.
